ASL ondersteun Movember

  • Teen 2030 sal prostaatkanker die tweede meeste van alle kankers wees wat by mans voorkom met ‘n geskatte 1.7 miljoen lyers;
  • Daar word geskat dat die voorkoms van prostaatkanker oor die volgende 15 jaar sal verdubbel;
  • Gedurende die afgelope 50 jaar het testikulêre kanker verdubbel;
  • Die hoogste voorkoms van testikulêre kanker is by mans tussen die ouderdomme van 15 en 40, maar die suksessyfer van herstel is 95% met vroeë opsporing;

ASL supports Movember

Many ASL staff members have been affected in one way or another by cancer, whether they are or have been a cancer victim themselves or on account of the fact that a near family member or a friend is or was a cancer sufferer. In October we launched a successful campaign in support of Breast Cancer Awareness and in November we turn our attention to the male sex to support the international Movember initiative, which raises funds for research into, and the prevention of, cancer in males.

Movember focuses on three male diseases, i.e. Prostate cancer, Testicular cancer, and Mental Health and prevention of suicide.

A few general facts about the state of men’s health:

  • By 2030 prostate cancer will be the second most prevalent of cancers among men, with an estimated 1.7 million sufferers;
  • It is estimated that the incidence of prostate cancer will double over the next 15 years;
  • The incidence of testicular cancer has doubled over the past 50 years;
  • Testicular cancer is most prevalent in men between the ages of 15 and 40 but, with early detection, the recovery rate is 95%;
  • Three out of four persons who commit suicide, are men. In simpler terms – every minute every day a man somewhere in the world commits suicide.

The above could happen to our husbands, fathers, brothers or friends. Therefore we add our voices to millions worldwide and support the Movember campaign.
